Who are our classes suitable for?

Our mini mixed metal sculpture workshop is suitable for complete beginners or those who have some experience and are looking to enhance their skills. This workshop is a great introduction to working in copper and brass sheet and wire to construct your mini sculpture.

During the day we introduce you to the workshop, tools, equipment and cover health and safety. You will learn a range of traditional silversmithing techniques including saw piercing, texturing, soldering, polishing and finishing.

What will you make?

You will make a free standing mini sculpture using mixed metals. You will learn a range of jewellery and metalwork techniques, making samples before deciding on your final sculpture.

With guidance from your tutor you will cut and saw out your sculpture from sheet metal, using a mixture of copper and brass. You will then explore how to texture and punch the surface to add detail, learning how to form wire to create additions such as legs or stems. These will be soldered to the front or back of your sculpture and will bring the character of your sculpture to life. Finally you will fix your sculpture to a wooden base.

Our jewellery making facilities.

We have a well-equipped traditional jewellery workshop with a good variety of machinery and hand tools. We also have a good selection of specialist tools. Students work at their own individual jewellery bench; we have separate soldering areas and larger communal workbenches.

What’s included?

All materials are included in the cost of this course. Tea and coffee are also included. The workshop is fun and informative, and no previous experience is needed. Small class sizes ensure individual tuition from your qualified experienced tutor.
