Claw Set Stone Ring Setting

Stone Setting Course -

Learn how to solder a 4 claw setting with a faceted stone to create a beautiful silver ring in this one day specialist techniques workshop with Jeweller Ben Friend at Studio Budgie Galore.
Ben is a jeweller based in Sheffield with over 15 years experience working directly for the jewellery trade.
With guidance from Ben, you will learn how to form, hammer, file and polish wire to create a knife edge profiled ring shank. This exercise will be carried out in copper before moving on to learn how to solder a 4 claw silver setting to a knife edge silver ring shank (you will not make the silver claw or shank from scratch as the focus of this workshop is on soldering and setting of the stone). You will learn how to size your ring up or down to the required finger size and you will then learn how to use the pendant motor to channel your setting to fit your stone and clean and polish your ring. You will choose a semi precious 5mm stone for your ring or if you prefer you can bring your own 5mm faceted stone with you on the day. You will make a silver 4 claw ring, set with a faceted stone to take away at the end of the day.
All materials are included in the cost of this workshop. Tea, coffee and cake are also included.
This workshop if not suitable for complete beginners, an understanding of the soldering process and general jewellery making skills are needed before attending this workshop. If you have made jewellery previously, this workshop will increase your jewellery making skills and add a new dimension to your own collections.
